Digital sports streaming is a modern idea that offers great help to the millions of people worldwide. Further adding to this aspect is the Roku set top box that is allowing people all over to enjoy the games of their HD or SD televisions. They do not have to adhere to their laptops rather they can enjoy the games in their living room itself. Its advantages over the cable packages are many. They not only offer the games but the DVR functionality as well.

These days the Roku offers Video highlights of the games, game summaries and the league info. Several new Roku channels are on their way which is following partnerships with the Web video podcast site Blip. They will soon be offering the web series on the television too. One of the biggest advantages of Roku set is that it is comparatively less costly than the Xbox, PlayStation and other Blu-Ray players. The apple TV player is also twice the cost of the Roku player.

Roku player is changing the digital cable market to a great extent as they are far better than the digital cable. The Roku offers a wide range of services that the digital cable cannot offer. There is more than one reason of choosing the Roku set box over the cable, satellite or Telco TV. The internet cable suppliers now have to think about changing their schemes and techniques so as to beat off the competition from the Roku. A large umber of people claim that they are switching from their digital cable to the Roku because of its varied options. They think that when there is something like the Roku why they should waste time by surfing the channels.

The option of bringing the internet into your living room on the big wide screen of your TV is always more preferred by the mass. The digital videos are better portrayed on the television. Roku has changed both the entertainment industry as well as the digital cable industry. They have to introduce new and improved ways and techniques so as to stay put in the market. Roku is taking away large part of their market share as people are continuously switching to the Roku set top box.

Choose the Right Roku

The first step to becoming a Roku power user is choosing your device. All Roku devices have the same basic features: access to over 1,000 channels with built in wireless and search features. Here’s the breakdown of the differences:
  • The Roku Streaming Stick is $49.99 and only works on HDTVs. It has all the basic features like search, access to all the channels, and it comes with a remote. It also has dual-band wireless, and you can stream directly from Netflix and YouTube apps on your smartphone, similar to the Google Chromecast.
  • The Roku 1 is the same price as the streaming stick, but lacks dual-band wireless, and you can’t stream directly from your smartphone apps. It’s main advantage: it works on all TVs, not just HDTVs. Other than that it’s the exact same as the Streaming Stick. So, if you have an HDTV, the streaming stick gives you more for the same price (in a smaller package).

  • The Roku 2 is $69.99 and has a headphone jack in the remote for private listening, and dual-band wireless. It’s compatible with all TV’s, but you don’t get to stream directly from smartphone apps with this one either. Essentially, it costs an extra 30 bucks for a headphone jack on the remote.
  • The Roku 3 is $99.99 and for HDTV’s only. It’s also exceptionally better than the others. You get everything the other Rokus offer, except the channel buttons on the remote. Plus, the Roku 3 is five times faster and has ethernet, micro USB, and USB slots. You can use the remote to motion-control the games you play on it, and other than the Streaming Stick, it’s the only one that can stream directly from Netflix and YouTube apps on your phone.
You get the same giant library of streaming content with all of them, but each comes with a slightly different set of features. Make sure you’re choosing the one that fits your needs, and if you’re torn between choosing one feature over another, then it might be best to go with the Roku 3.

The Best Roku Media Sources

Roku is a streaming media player that plays video, music, and other media. Roku connects your TV to an amazing amount of content with no computer required. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection. Roku can be set-up in as little as 5 minutes and is simple to use. Also, because it streams the media directly from the Internet to your TV, there is no need to wait for downloads. Your favorite media is available instantly.

There are many Roku Media options available. The most popular media providers include Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Video On Demand. All three of these options provide access to your favorite movies and television programs in high-definition.

Netflix currently has an unlimited streaming subscription option for only $7.99 per month. The Netflix library contains nearly every movie or television show available on DVD. However, the portion of the Netflix library available for streaming is smaller. Most new releases are not available for streaming with Netflix. Also, a Netflix subscription does not give you access to current season TV shows.

Hulu Plus is a very popular service video streaming service. It offers a subscription for $7.99, the same price as the Netflix streaming only subscription. Hulu Plus offers current and prior season TV shows from most networks. It also offers a large selection of movies, although many new release premium movies are not available.

Amazon Video On Demand has a different pricing model than Netflix or Hulu Plus. Amazon Video On Demand does not have a monthly fee. Instead, you pay to purchase or rent movies and TV shows. TV shows and movies can be rented for as little as 99 cents. Amazon Video On Demand offers nearly any movie or TV show that is available on DVD. It also offers current season TV shows.

The best Roku media source for you depends on what content you want the most. To cover the most options with the least cost, many people chose to purchase a monthly Netflix subscription and then supplement this with an occasional Amazon Video On Demand purchase. This way, you get most of your favorite content for $7.99 per month. Then, if there is a must watch TV show or new release movie that is not included in the Netflix library, it can still be purchased from Amazon Video On Demand.
